Your secret telegram No. 533 of 10th May, 1948
The following are questions to be asked at the next meeting of the Legislative Council on 26th May, 1948.-
A. How does the government propose to make use of free grant of £1,000,000 to assist the Colony in resolving problems arising out of expenditure connected with var? quesics
B. On the assumption that proposals contained in such announcement are to be accepted by the Goverment. is the Colony under any outstanding Liability of any kind in rospect of any matter arising out of war?
C. If answor to preceding question is in the affirmative, vill the Government state nature and extent of such liability, with particular regard to:
(a) Salaries, in respect of occupation period, of Goreniment servante who wore not interned and
(b) "Denial" claims on the part of the public.
The proposed replies are as follows:-
A. The grant will baTO to be taken into general. revenue in accordance with established account proceedure.
B and C. The following are known outstanding liabilities in round figures,
